S2S Program

Students gathering

Students attain transferable skills as a means to achieve financial independence.

The Student-to-Student Financial Success Program (S2S) takes the peer-to-peer concept and merges it with the center's mission through an innovative, student-centered, student-driven service model. Students are given the opportunity to learn basic money management skills from trained peer counselors, known as Money Management Mentors. Mentors are providing support to students through general money management financial sessions, workshops, presentations, and a skills series.

With the support of the Center, the S2S will serve students in four areas:  PEER financial sessions, workshops and presentations, money management skills training series, and online training modules.

PEER Financial Session

Students can meet and discuss money matters with a Money Management Mentor.  Each PEER session consists of four sequential phases:  Planning, Educating, Engaging, and Reviewing.  The first step, planning, introduces the organizational aspect of money management.  Mentors then guide the students through an educational curriculum tailored to the student. The third step allows the student to independently take action with a plan created by themselves and the mentor. After the student has completed their tasks, they will return for the final step of reviewing their progress with the mentor and ensure they are continuing their path to financial independence.

Schedule a PEER financial session.

PEER Workshops & Presentations

Students can attend a wide variety of interactive financial workshops conducted by the Mentors each semester.  Each workshop will be designed to provide students with information and tools that they can easily personalize and apply to their own financial lives.

Money Management Skills Training Series

Students can learn, apply, and practice money management skills to meet the changing needs throughout their college experience through this in-depth training series.  Each series will consist of three to five 60-90 minute training sessions.

September 15, 2009, marks the first year anniversary of the S2S Program. During its first year of operations we learned a lot about how to design, plan, and launch a successful peer counseling program. Throughout this past year our team never lost sight of our primary goal: student success. The SMMC management team and mentors would like to thank the TG Foundation and its Public Benefit Grant Program for providing the financial support during our first year that helped us turn dreams into student-centered, student-driven financial literacy services for our students. Thank you!
